A Terrier of ye Vicarage of ye Parish of Upottery

made in ye Year 1745

 

  1. The Vi: House fifty seven Foot long and twenty two broad is built with Stone & Earth & covered with Reed. There are five Rooms on ye Floor, a Hall, Kitchin, two Cellars & a Pantry, ye first floor’d with Lime & Sand, ye 2nd with Earth, ye other three with Stone, not wainscotted but ceil’d – four Chambers Outhouses, one Stable ten Foot long & nine broad – One Brewhouse seventeen Foot long & ten broad two Woodhouses one eighteen Foot long & ten broad, ye other five foot long & ten broad, all built with Flint & Earth & cover’d with Reed.
  2. The Glebe all inclos’d, is four Acres, some Meadow & some arable, Bridge Meadow two Gapland one, Worm Grove & Home Close one more. The Court & Gardens half an Acre & fenc’d with Hedges. The Trees growing in & about ye Churchyard are twenty two Ashes & eleven Elms and on other Parts of ye Glebe are nine Ashes & Elms.
  3. There is a Gift or Bequest of forty shillings a year (Land) for ye Repair of ye Church or ye Relief of ye poor, ye Writings concerning ye same are in ye Persons Custody yt pays ye Money.
  4. Mortuaries none.
  5. There are four Bells belonging to ye Church, no Clock, a Chalice of Silver & a Flagon of Pewter for ye Communion Service & other Decencies mark’d with Upottery.                             
  6. The Church wardens are charg’d with ye Repairs of ye Church & Ch’yard Fences ye Chancel is repair’d out of ye great Tithes.       
  7. The Clerk’s Salary is forty shillings a year paid him by ye Church wardens, & is appointed by ye minister.
